The overriding goal of the Local Government Reform (LGR) Programme is to improve public services to ordinary citizens. This reform programme appears to be one of the least known policy reforms in Tanzania. In this brief, we present the results from a comprehensive citizens’ survey of the LGR. This survey was conducted recently and identifies the challenges facing the LGR with respect to enhancing community awareness and citizens’ participation.
REPOA was established in 1994 as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) under the name of “Research on Poverty Alleviation Programme Limited” and registered as a company limited by Guarantee not having share capital. In October 2014 the name of the organisation was changed to REPOA Limited in order to reflect its broader mandate without losing the brand name already established.
