This policy brief assesses rice production and consumption in Tanzania, the cultivated area of rice and yields obtained. It also presents the market dynamics of the rice sub-sector by assessing its exports, imports as well as its prices in the domestic and international market. Lastly, it presents challenges hindering trade competitiveness and provides policy recommendations to enhance rice production and trade competitiveness.
REPOA was established in 1994 as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) under the name of “Research on Poverty Alleviation Programme Limited” and registered as a company limited by Guarantee not having share capital. In October 2014 the name of the organisation was changed to REPOA Limited in order to reflect its broader mandate without losing the brand name already established.
