Access to Formal and Quasi-Formal Credit by Smallholder Farmers and Artisanal Fishermen

A Case of Zanzibar

Using survey data as well as secondary information, this study was set out to review the operational mechanism of the existing formal and quasi-formal credit arrangements in Zanzibar with the view to assess their performance in serving micro-enterprise sector with particular reference to smallholder farmers and artisanal fishermen. The study aimed at providing useful information to aid the decision-making process for the enhancement of access to credit by the majority of small-scale producers.
