REPOA would like to extend its sincere gratitude for the financial support provided by the Green Economy Coalition (GEC) secretariat in London through ACODE to develop this working paper. The work presented in this paper has been funded by the MAVA Foundation through the Economics for Nature (E4N) programme.

This paper assesses the status of the transition to a nature-positive green economy with respect to energy transition and green economy initiatives in Tanzania. Nature positive green economy refers to natural resources and biodiversity, mainly renewable resources, and ecosystems. Owing to increasing climate change effects, countries have shifted from using fossil fuels including oil, natural gas, and coal — to renewable energy sources like hydro, wind, geo-thermal and solar etc.

During the transitioning processes, it is crucial to sustainably manage the utilisation of natural resources’ in maximizing their benefits. However, despite the abundant endowment of natural resources, there are still challenges facing the country. READ ON….
