The Case of Tanga Region, Tanzania
The study set out to assess the extent of empowerment of low-income women at the household level as a result of loans given for starting income generating activities(IGAs) or micro-enterprises. It covered clients of the Credit Scheme for Productive Activities of Women in Tanzania piloted in Tanga region from 1991 and later from 1995.
REPOA was established in 1994 as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) under the name of “Research on Poverty Alleviation Programme Limited” and registered as a company limited by Guarantee not having share capital. In October 2014 the name of the organisation was changed to REPOA Limited in order to reflect its broader mandate without losing the brand name already established.
